For years I always sat on the sidelines feeling insecure and shy. By entering Miss BC I realized I can be proud of who I am. My diagnosis of Lupus used to make me feel self-conscious, like I had to hide from the world. Through this competition I was able to raise awareness for the disease I fight daily and to help others with Lupus feel confident in spite of their struggles. Lupus is a disease that not many people understand because we don't look 'sick' but inside our bodies are fighting themselves.
I am now finished school/exams and am a Licensed Registered Pharmacy Technician. I work in the pharmacy I always dreamed I would work in. I recommend the Miss BC program to everyone in passing because it teaches you to look not only at the outward appearance of a person, but at their talents, abilities and self-confidence. I have made more than friendships through this competition. I now have a second family!
